Moving Beyond the Drug Budget Silo Mentality in Europe

ISPOR initiated a Value in Health Special Issue to analyze drug reimbursement policies in Europe, especially with regard to other health care reimbursement policies (such hospital and health care services) and to recommend changes to these systems. Six countries were selected to provide a representative mix of public systems in Europe: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The papers in this Value in Health Special Issue were authored by some of the leading health economists in Europe who analyzed how the policies in their respective country health-care systems to control and influence pharmaceutical spending influenced the overall performance of their systems, with respect to both cost control and the production of population health.
