We read with great interest the article by Lavelle et al, “Mental Health, Quality of Life, and Work Functioning of Parents of Children Who Have Died from Spinal Muscular Atrophy.” The authors have produced an important contribution that sheds light on the enduring psychosocial and economic consequences of parental bereavement in SMA type 1. Their rigorous methodology, combining validated instruments with stratification by time since loss, offers a nuanced portrait of how grief impacts parents across different stages. Although we commend the authors for this valuable work, we wish to provide several constructive observations that may further strengthen the discussion and inform future research directions.
