CHEERS to Updated Guidelines for Reporting Health Economic Evaluations!

Abstract

In this issue, the Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards (CHEERS) 2022 makes its global debut.1 Whether this report remains known as CHEERS 2022 (a good vintage year, we are hoping) or simply becomes “CHEERS II,” it is a sequel worthy of its predecessor. The original CHEERS report was published in Value in Health in 2013,2 along with shorter summaries in 9 other journals, including the European Journal of Health Economics, Clinical Therapeutics, Cost Effective Resource Allocation, BMC Medicine, BMJ, Pharmacoeconomics, Journal of Medical Economics, the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, and the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.3-11

Altogether, it has been cited more than 2600 times in those 9 years, making it the most highly cited of all ISPOR Good Practices Task Force Reports. It is among the most impactful reporting standards worldwide for reporting health research and is listed in the Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research (EQUATOR) network of guidelines.12
