ISPOR CONTINUES TO WORK TOWARDS IMPROVED HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT

The ISPOR Asia Consortium & ISPOR Latin America Consortium organized a forum of health technology experts from the BRICS countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa at the ISPOR 18th Annual International Meeting in New Orleans, LA in May 2013.  You may view the released presentations by visiting ISPOR BRICS Forum Released Presentations.

The ISPOR Medical Devices & Diagnostics Special Interest Group formed the HTA and Reimbursement Processes for In Vitro Diagnostic Working Group  to identify the current practices and challenges in HTA, reimbursement processes, and evidence requirements facing molecular diagnostics stakeholders involved in treatment selection.

ISPOR FOCUSES ON THE PATIENT

ISPOR convened the Patient Representatives Roundtables to provide an opportunity for patient representatives to learn and discuss how they can participate in the assessment of a new health technology (drug, medical device, diagnostics, biopharmaceutical, vaccines) and increase their involvement in health policy decision making.  The first ISPOR Patient Representatives Roundtable, focusing on patient involvement in HTA and health policy decisions, was held at the ISPOR 16th Annual European Congress in Dublin, Ireland.

ISPOR formed the Patient Centered Special Interest Group to determine how best to involve patients and their representatives, in all stages of the decision making, to improve health care delivery and outcomes.  The Patient Engagement in Research Working Group, co-chaired by Francois Houyez, Director of Treatment Information & Access, Health Policy Advisor, EURORDIS, Paris, France, will determine how best to involve patients and their representatives in the research process.

ISPOR TAKES ACTION ON RARE DISEASES

The new Measuring Patient- and Observer-Reported Outcomes in Rare Disease Clinical Trials - Emerging Good Practices Task Force,  chaired by Katy Benjamin, PhD, SM, Director, Patient-Reported Outcomes, Oxford Outcomes, Bethesda, MD, USA, will develop emerging good research practice recommendations on measuring PROs and ObsROs in rare disease clinical trials.

In addition, ISPOR formed the Rare Diseases Special Interest Group with working groups:
