organization, its governance is determined by the membership. The ISPOR Nominations Committee is seeking qualified candidates for the position of PRESIDENT-ELECT and 2 DIRECTOR positions. You, as an ISPOR member, are invited to submit your name if you wish to be considered for a position on the 2009-2010 ISPOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS. ISPOR Risk Benefit Management (RBM) Special Interest Group (SIG)

RBM news, policy, and drug safety alert & withdrawal information links have been added to the RBM WG webpage. Also, five manuscripts are in development are as follows: Direct-to-Consumer Advertising and Its Relationship to Risk Benefit Management; Metrics & Methodologies to Quantify Risks & Benefits; Risk Benefit Monitoring Worldwide; A Comparison across Industries of Risk Benefit Management Practices; and Head to Head comparison of EMEA to US RBM Guidelines. If you are interested in contributing to and becoming a co-author on any of these manuscript projects, please email:

HTA-Evidence Based Decision SIG (HTA-EBD SIG) Road Maps
The Global Health Technology Assessments Used In Health Care Reimbursement Working Group of the HTA-EBD SIG has added more countries to the ISPOR Global Health Care Systems Road Map. Also, the Health Technology Assessment of Emerging New Technologies Working Group of the HTA-EBD SIG has added to the ISPOR Global Health Care Systems Road Map country-specific Health policy decision process: A comprehensive, validated decision model for each country that defines decision-makers and the decision-making process for coverage and payment of new and emerging technologies in pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics.

The Society’s Awards are designed to recognize outstanding achievements in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research. The ISPOR Scientific Awards are:

  • Avedis Donabedian Lifetime Achievement Award
  • ISPOR Bernie J. O’Brien New Investigator Award
  • Research Excellence for Methodology Award
  • Research Excellence for Practical Applications Award

These ISPOR awards will be presented at the ISPOR 14th Annual International Meeting in Orlando, FL, USA, May 16-20, 2009.

ISPOR Venezuela Local Chapter

The 1st ISPOR Venezuela Conference “Promoting Quality and Efficiency in the Health Care System” was held on October 9 & 10, 2008 in Caracas, Venezuela. The program included 7 lectures and 2 short courses, with the attendance of over 60 professionals.

This symposium aims to cover a broad range of topics in HRQOL, Symptom Research and Cancer Clinical Trials. It will address recent developments of EORTC tools, as well as other measures for use in clinical trials, but also have a broader focus including discussing international developments and research guidelines for USA FDA, EMEA and HRQOL in oncology. The 25 faculty members are international key opinion leaders in the field who will be able to provide a diverse view on HRQOL. Registration is free for academics and fellowships bursaries are also offered for a limited number of places to help sponsor young investigators to attend the meeting.
