Healthcare Decision-Making in the Middle East and North Africa: Role of Health Economics, Outcomes Research and Health Technology Assessment

Aware of the rapid growth in the health care sector in the region, ISPOR is offering unique educational and information-sharing opportunities to address issues of effective healthcare decision-making to improve patient access to effective and innovative technologies in the MENA region. The event, which is organized with the involvement from the ISPOR Arabic Network, will provide opportunities to engage in discussions with key industry stakeholders and leaders in the Middle East, North Africa and internationally. This was an opportunity to learn about the ISPOR Arabic and ISPOR Africa Networks, meet over 60 members from Africa and Western Asia, and find out how to get involved with ISPOR Networks. The reception was opened by the Arabic Network Executive Committee Member, Dr. Ola Al Ahdab and the Africa Network Executive Committee Chair-elect, Dr. Mahmoud Elmahdawy.

THE HEALTH AND ECONOMIC THREATS OF NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA
This Forum stimulated discussion related to the health and economic burden of the main non-communicable diseases in the Middle East and North Africa. During the presentations speakers highlighted local and regional approaches and solutions across policy and financing, prevention, early detection, treatment and the long-term management of NCDs. The non-communicable diseases often referred to as lifestyle diseases, such as: heart diseases, cancer and diabetes are currently responsible for 63% of all deaths worldwide.
