Overview:
As compared to pharmaceutical technology, medical device & diagnostics technology has unique features in terms of conception, development, introduction into medical practice, and utilization over time. These features influence the type and level of evidence needed to support regulatory approval as well reimbursement by health care systems. The HTA for Medical Device & Diagnostics Working Group will address, and hopefully bring clarity, to the unique features of medical device & diagnostic technology outcomes research as well as use of this research in coverage and reimbursement decisions.

Goal:
The goal of the HTA for Medical Devices and Diagnostics Working Group is to develop information on the health care reimbursement system and decision-making processes for medical devices and diagnostics around the world and to identify topics for development of good research practices in the conduct of medical devices and diagnostics outcomes research.

Objectives:

  • Describe the health care decision making processes, HTA review and Reimbursement systems for medical devices and diagnostics globally for inclusion in the Global Health Care Systems Roadmap at: http://www.ispor.org/HTARoadMaps/Default.asp
  • Promote discussion with decisions makers on topics on which good research practices can be developed
