Why do more patients take more medications? A systematic
examination of
national guidelines and their evolution during the past three
decades reveals clear
themes. These data help to explain rising pharmaceutical
expenditures and provide
a framework for further research and policy.

US Medicare Modernization Act |

Speaker:
Steven Phurrough MD, MPA, Director, Coverage and Analysis Group, Office of Clinical Standards & Quality Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Baltimore, MD, USA
What are Medicare's plans for collecting data post-coverage?
Medicare commonly finds that the evidence supporting medical
necessity for services and technologies is less than adequate for
CMS, providers and patients. This creates challenges for making
good medical decisions. CMS is interested in well designed studies
of observational data and supportive information to determine the
best prevention, diagnosis and treatment options.
