EuroQol Group Foundation

The EuroQol Group consists of a network of international multi-disciplinary researchers from Europe, North America, New Zealand, South Africa and Japan. Their collaboration resulted in EQ-5D - a standardised, non-disease-specific instrument for describing and valuing health. EQ-5D is in widespread use in many countries and has been applied in many different settings. EQ-5D is now an integral feature of many clinical trials and is increasingly used in population health surveys.

The EuroQol Group Foundation is formally registered in the Netherlands. The objective of the Foundation is to promote the scientific interests of the EuroQol Group. The Foundation has a formal Board of Management and a growing Business Management Office in the Netherlands which is a focal point for communication and provides services for distribution, co-ordination and quality control. The EuroQol Business Management maintains a website at www.euroqol.org. For more information, contact the EuroQol Business Manager, dr. Frank de Charro at fdecharro@compuserve.com.

“GPRD – The premier source of healthcare data from primary care”

The General Practice Research Database is the premier source of healthcare data from primary care

GPRD is the world’s largest database of anonymised longitudinal medical records from primary care. Containing comprehensive observational data from real life clinical practice, it provides analytical insight for a wide range of applications in clinical trials, drug safety, health outcomes, sales and marketing, portfolio management and epidemiology.

The database is updated regularly to enable the latest medical, prescribing and disease trends to be identified, even for newly-launched products. It is easily and securely accessed via the internet, and full training and ongoing customer support are provided.

Observational data profiling the UK population from cradle to grave

The UK is an excellent location for carrying out medical and epidemiological research. Primary healthcare is provided to the entire population by state-funded NHS General Practitioners, who are the gate-keepers for referral to secondary care. The GPRD patient population is drawn from over 350 practices throughout the UK and is broadly representative of the UK population.

3 million active patient records (7 million total)

The large sample size means that accurate conclusions can be confidently drawn on disease trends, drug utilisation and health outcomes, and even rare outcomes can be studied. Long term studies can be carried out because the database contains over 35 million patient years of high quality validated data, with up to 12 years of records for individual patients. The GPRD Division actively maintains good relationships with contributing practices to ensure data continuity, a consistently large patient sample size and availability of follow up and source data verification services.

We collect, validate and update the records in the database ourselves. Data accuracy is assured and results reflect current treatment trends, new guidelines and recently introduced therapies. As the data is centrally updated by the GPRD Division, the database is well-structured, ready to query and saves you time and money compared to building datasets from ‘flat’ files..

Full training and ongoing customer support provided

Our experienced research team provides ongoing advice for customers on query construction for a study design and carry out additional commissioned research work to complement the comprehensive training included with all online access services and access to the GPRD helpdesk.
