ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award Chair

Description: The ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award (formerly International Fellowship Award) was established in 2006 to recognize key individuals who would contribute to the development of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research or the use of outcomes research in health care decision in their own country/region.

Nature of the Award: The recipient(s) of the ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award will receive:

  • Complimentary meeting registrations for 2 consecutive years (one per year) to ISPOR Annual International Meeting or European Congress.;
  • Complimentary ISPOR Short Course registration (up to 4 courses per meeting/congress) for 2 consecutive years at ISPOR Annual International Meeting or European Congress; and
  • air fare (coach), transportation and 4 nights lodging expenses (per ISPOR travel policy) for 2 consecutive years to ISPOR Annual International Meeting or European Congress.

Award Requirements: After the ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award experience and 2 years later, the recipient(s) must submit a report for publication in ISPOR CONNECTIONS and the ISPOR website outlining how they contributed to the development of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research or the use of outcomes research in health care decision in their own country/region.

Selection Criteria: Candidate(s) must:

  • define the clarity of purpose of the fellowship proposed;
  • reside in economically disadvantaged country (i.e.; not residing in North America, European Union (including the UK), Israel, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia);
  • be a junior scientist (i.e.; inclusive of those in clinical practice and academia, but exclusive to those associated with medical device and diagnostic companies and the pharmaceutical industry); 
  • not be a graduate student or fellow from another country currently residing in North America or Western Europe; and
  • not attended more than one ISPOR International Meeting or ISPOR European Congress previously.

Selection Process: Candidate(s) must submit a:

  • Cover letter;
  • Resume indicating their work environment where they will contribute to the development of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research or the use of outcomes research in health care decision;
  • Proposal (300-500 words) showing how they will contribute to the development of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research or the use of outcomes research in health care decision in their own country/region based on this ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award experience; and
  • Brief 100-word description of why financial need is required to attend an ISPOR Annual International Meeting or Annual European Congress that is not available by any other means.

Selection Group:

  • The ISPOR Awards Committee Chair shall appoint a Committee Chair who will select five ISPOR members from various regions of the world and different work environments (industry/academia/government/clinical practice) to select the recipients of the ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Awards.
  • The ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Committee is responsible for the selection of up to 3 candidates each year.

Selection Timeline:

  • Deadline for candidate submissions is November 30th of each year.
  • The Committee Chair will submit their selection to the ISPOR Board of Directors for approval by January 31 of each year.
  • The ISPOR International Travel Scholarship Award recipient(s) will be notified by March 1st of each year.
